How to Keep Your Wedding Guests Happy

Sometimes planning a wedding is just as stressful as it is exciting. While the day is primarily a celebration of your love, you’re also responsible for making sure your guests have a wonderful time.

To help you create a day that everyone remembers for all the right reasons, here are nine ways to keep your guests happy during your wedding day.

Provide clear directions

1. Provide clear directions

Help your guests arrive on time by providing detailed directions and parking information. Consider including a list of nearby accommodation options for people travelling far, too. You could even create a wedding website so your guests can access important information whenever they need to.

2. Have a warm welcome

Set the tone of the day with a warm welcome. You can stand at the entrance to your venue and greet guests personally or set up a welcome table with drinks, snacks, and info about the day. Small gestures like these make guests feel welcome and appreciated.

Be thoughtful with seating arrangements

3. Be thoughtful with seating arrangements

Think about your guests when planning the seating arrangements. Group guests who know each other together, so they feel comfortable. Try to group the rest of your guests according to their interests. This thoughtful planning encourages friendly conversations and a relaxed atmosphere.

4. Keep the ceremony short and sweet

Your guests will want to watch you and your partner exchange vows, but they’re mostly looking forward to the reception. Include everything you want in your ceremony, but try to keep it short and sweet. When it’s finished, your guests will be ready to party and celebrate with you.

Cater to all palates

5. Cater to all palates

The food will be the highlight for many of your guests. To keep everyone smiling, offer a menu or buffet with a wide variety of options — this way everyone will find something they like. Be sure to ask about allergies and dietary restrictions, so you’re sure there’s something for all your guests.

6. Provide a dance alternative

You probably already have a band, artist, or DJ in mind — and that’s great! But not everyone loves dancing. Provide a dance alternative, like a photo booth, garden games, pool table, etc so people who don’t want to dance can still enjoy themselves.

Hand out great favours

7. Hand out great favours

If you’ve decided to go with wedding favours, choose something your guests will actually want and use. Artisan chocolates, homemade biscuits, and personalised wine bottles will go down much better than traditional favours.

8. Think about guests’ comfort

It’s important to consider your guests’ comfort throughout the day. Make sure there’s plenty of seating available and don’t let the weather catch you out. Consider providing fans, blankets, or umbrellas — whatever the season calls for! Small comforts go a long way in keeping everyone happy.

Thank your guests

9. Thank your guests

At the end of your big day, show your guests how much you appreciate them by thanking them. You can thank everyone at the same time during a speech or thank everyone individually as they leave — whatever works for you. You could even send personalised thank you notes after the event.

The effort is worth it

Planning a wedding can be overwhelming, but with just a little bit of extra planning, you can make sure your guests have just as much fun as you. When your guests feel special, appreciated, and valued, they’ll treasure your big day and make it even better.
